Footwear and articles of leather

Poland is the 10th largest exporter of footwear in the world. Footwear exports in 2021 totaled nearly 129 million pairs worth €2.5 billion. Polish footwear is mainly exported to Europe. The most exported products are shoes with uppers made of plastic, as well as textile and leather shoes. Polish companies are also doing very well in the leather goods trade. Poland’s main partners in this industry, in terms of value of exported goods, are Germany, the Czech Republic and Ukraine. In 2021 exports of the industry accounted for 1.3% of Polish goods export.

The production of footwear in Poland is handled by 2906 companies, located mainly in the Małopolskie, Mazowieckie and Śląskie Voivodships. As much as 90% of those companies are microenterprises. The strengths of the industry are high production potential (high adaptability due to the structure – a large share of small companies), job creation in regions with lower investment saturation, high technology saturation at the design and production stages and the use of local raw materials and short supply chains.

The industry includes the following CN codes: 4102 to 4107, 4112 to 4115, 4201 to 4203, 4205, 4206, 4301 to 4304, 6116, 6401 to 6406.

These include, inter alia, skins of sheep or lamb, of cattle, of ungulates, leather, further processed after tanning or conditioning. They also include trunks, suitcases, leather containers, articles of apparel and clothing accessories, garments, clothing accessories and other articles of furskins, gloves, footwear, parts of footwear and others.
