Beef production in Poland is characterized by great fragmentation. Over 350,000 farms are involved in cattle breeding and rearing. The average number of animals kept does not exceed 20 heads. There is a positive change in the quality of beef carcasses, although these changes take place slowly. This is due to the fact that the number of beef cattle and crossbred cattle is increasing. Beef production declined slightly during the Covid-19 pandemic, but this did not affect the sector. In May 2017, Poland was granted a negligible BSE risk status, which opens the way to the markets of China and Vietnam for meat exports and Turkey for live beef exports.
