Trade in goods

Trade in goods between  the United States and Europe increased in 2024, reaching a record level of $976 billion. This is 60% more than the US trade in goods with China (USD 583 billion) and 20% more than the EU’s trade with China (USD 786 billion). In 2024, U.S. exports of goods to Europe  amounted to a record $504 billion, while imports of goods from Europe reached $771 billion.

As part of the trade in goods with the EU, the United States exported goods worth USD 370 billion, and imported goods worth USD 606 billion. As a result, the U.S. trade deficit in trade in goods with the EU was created, which amounted to $236 billion in 2024  – $27 billion more than in 2023.

Major US states exporting goods to Europe

Texas is the leading US state in terms of exports of goods to Europe, ahead of California, New York and Louisiana.

Germany was the largest European recipient of goods from 16 US states, and the Netherlands from 15 states. The United Kingdom, on the other hand, was the main market for goods from 8 US states.

Trade in services

The U.S. and the European Union are the world’s largest trading partners in terms of services. In 2024, trade in services between the US and the EU reached an estimated value of USD 475 billion, of which  US service exports amounted to USD 275 billion and imports to USD 200 billion. As a result of this exchange, the US obtained a surplus in trade in services with the EU of USD 75 billion.

In 2023, the European market accounted for 42 percent of the total US service exchange with the rest of the world, of which 25 percent was accounted for by the EU, and another 17 percent by the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and other non-EU countries. EU trade in services was higher than  US trade with the Asia-Pacific region, and twice as large as  US trade with USMCA partners Canada and Mexico.

US-Poland Trade

Trade between the US and Poland is dynamic and has a significant impact on the economies of both countries. Poland is an important trading partner for the United States in Central and Eastern Europe. The value of trade between the US and Poland in 2023 exceeded $12 billion.

Export from Polish to the USA

Poland exports  primarily electronics, machinery, transport equipment, foodstuffs, cosmetics, and chemical products to the US. The main export goods are: furniture, clothing, foodstuffs, machinery and electrical appliances.

Import to Poland from the US

Poland imports planes, ships, vehicles, machinery, electronic devices, chemicals, as well as agricultural and food products such as soybeans, fruits, and beverages from the U.S. In addition, the U.S. provides Poland with advanced technologies, pharmaceuticals, and energy resources such as liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Strategic trade sectors:

  • technologies and innovations – the US is one of the leaders in providing modern technologies to Poland, especially in the field of IT, communication and manufacturing technology,
  • energy – close cooperation in the field of energy, including LNG imports and the development of renewable energy sources.

Poland and the US have signed trade and investment agreements. Both parties are also developing joint research, development and new technology projects.

The current trade war casts a shadow over the dynamic development of economic relations between the US and Europe. Although trade exceeded $2 trillion in 2024 and the US-EU trade deficit in 2023 was $161 billion, tariff and regulatory tensions could hamper this growth. The escalation of disputes threatens to disrupt supply chains and weaken transatlantic cooperation, which may affect future economic relations.
