Fruit, vegetables, mushrooms and products thereof
The production of fruit and fruit preserves in Poland is high, with exports of EUR 1.7 billion in 2021, higher than in previous years. Poland is the largest producer of apples, raspberries and cherries in the European Union. The vegetable market is also developing systematically. We are one of the leading vegetable producers in the European Union. We are first in cabbage production and second in carrots and cucumbers. Polish export hits are also mushrooms, in 2019 their export amounted to 255 million PLN.
Over the last twenty years the production of fruit and vegetables in Poland has increased significantly, its quality and technical equipment of farms have improved, producers have taken the trouble to organize themselves. Modern processing has developed. As a result, Poland has become an important producer and exporter of fresh and processed fruit and vegetables in Europe and in the world. In 2020 vegetables and mushrooms constituted 5% of the structure of Polish agri-food commodity exports. In the case of fruits and nuts it was 4%. In the same year, the current price of exports of edible fruits and nuts amounted to more than EUR 1.2 billion, and vegetables to more than EUR 1.16 billion. In 2021, the industry’s exports accounted for 1.3% of Poland’s goods exports. Poland’s main partners in this industry, in terms of the value of exported goods, are Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
