Lamps „Made in Poland”
A Brief History of the Polish Lamp
The history of the lamp begins with the gas lamps that lit up the streets of London in 1809. Seventy years later, on October 21, 1879, the first electric light bulb designed by Thomas Alva Edison was lit. Between these events, for many years, starting from 1853, houses were illuminated by kerosene lamps invented by a Pole. Ignacy Łukasiewicz, a Polish chemist, pharmacist and entrepreneur living in Lviv, created a lamp that took over the lighting of private homes.
The Polish design of lamps began with a hanging kerosene lamp, for which in 1925, at an exhibition in Paris, Poles received as many as 5 Gran Prix awards and 70 gold medals.
