Semiconductors in the Tri-City – a new investment by MEP Solutions
22.11.2024
Poland is emerging as a European leader in the semiconductor sector, and the Tri-City is becoming its heart. MEP Solutions’ investment in Gdańsk is an example of an effective strategy for attracting key technology projects.
In recent years, Poland has been consistently developing its competences as a country conducive to investments in advanced technology. One example is the rapid growth of the semiconductor sector, which has gained importance in an era of growing global demand for chips and geopolitical tensions forcing manufacturers to diversify their supply chains.
MEP Solutions’ investment in Gdańsk is proof that Poland, thanks to its strategic location and well-thought-out economic policy, is able to attract players from the highest technological shelf.
MEP Solutions: a key project in the Tri-City
MEP Solutions’ decision to locate their investment in Gdańsk is due to many factors. The company, which specializes in supplying construction and infrastructure modules for semiconductor factories, chose the Tri-City because of its access to highly qualified engineering staff, well developed transport infrastructure and proximity to Western European markets.
The new factory, which is scheduled to open in 2025, will create several hundred jobs and will become one of the key points in MEP Solutions’ global production network. The location near the Baltic Hub, one of the largest seaports in Central Europe, further increases the strategic importance of the investment, providing effective access to international markets.
The success of this investment is also due to the PAIH’s Foreign Trade Office in Tel Aviv, which actively supported the negotiation process with MEP Solutions, convincing the investor of the advantages of the Polish location. This cooperation emphasizes the importance of diplomatic and trade activities in building the attractiveness of Poland as an investment destination.
Tricity: the technological centre of Europe
Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot are becoming a key region on the technological map of Poland. This is where investments from high-tech sectors, such as semiconductors and IT, are concentrated. In addition to MEP Solutions, the region also has the SK hynix Research and Development Centre and the Intel Technology Poland Research and Development Centre, which focus on the design and testing of advanced integrated circuits.
The expansion of its logistics infrastructure, including ports and roads, makes the Tri-City an ideal place for companies that want to produce on a global scale. The Baltic Hub, the largest container terminal in Poland and one of the most important in the Baltic Sea region, enables efficient shipment of products to international markets, which is crucial for manufacturers.
Poland’s role in the global semiconductor market
According to the “Back-End Semiconductor Manufacturing Index” report prepared by the consulting company Kearney, Poland is the most attractive country in Europe for the production of semiconductors in the back-end process. This is the testing and packaging stage of chips, which, while less capital-intensive than the front-end process, requires advanced technology and cost efficiency.
Poland stands out from other countries thanks to its proximity to large markets such as Germany, France and the United Kingdom. A well-developed transport network, including seaports, airports and motorways, enables fast delivery of products to customers in Western Europe. An additional advantage is access to qualified engineering staff and competitive labour costs, which makes Poland extremely attractive compared to other European Union countries.
Institutional support: the key to success
Poland’s success in attracting technological investments is the result of coordinated efforts of institutions such as the Polish Investment and Trade Agency and the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone. PAIH, thanks to its global network of offices, actively works to promote Poland as an attractive investment destination. The Pomeranian Special Economic Zone provides preferential conditions for investors, including tax reliefs and infrastructure support.
Poland is the leader in technology in Europe
MEP Solutions’ investment is not just another project in Poland, but proof that our country has the potential to become one of the key players in the global semiconductor supply chain. Thanks to its strategic location, developed infrastructure and coordinated institutional support, Poland is setting new standards in attracting technological investments.
